Family Activities

Telluride is not just for adults, it is nature's playgound for children and families. There are activities for families all year round. During the winter, we have a wonderful children's center for skiing and snowboarding - but also for just hanging out! So don't be afraid to bring your 1yr old, the center takes children from 4 months up (telluridekids.com). We also offer snowmobiling, sledding, tubing and family ice skating parties for great nostalgic fun. In the spring we show off our local talents with Young People's Theatre Presentations at our historic Sheridan Opera House. In summer we celebrate weekly festivals for everyone, but children usually love our Hot Air Balloon Rally, Wild West Fest, Huck Finn Day w/parade, fishing, and costume contest, Circus Holus Bolus Week, 4th of July fireworks & Ice Cream Social, and our rubber duck race down the San Miguel River that flows through our town.

 The Telluride Academy is our local kids camp and draws counselors from all over the US with a miriad of impressive backgrounds. The Academy has programs for children aged 4 to 16yrs (Tellurideacademy.com). The Rainbow Preschool also offers a great camp program for ages 2 1/2 - 5yrs. if you are lucky enough to get a space (970.728.3820).

Those that don't do camp have fun throwing rocks and getting wet along our river trail, visiting our Valley Cows, and looking for sheep in Greyhead. In fall, there are easy hikes for families to enjoy our beautiful folliage or visit our Nature Center at the top of the mountain. Rent a 4x4 and go exploring or take a tour with Telluride Mountain Guides. 

Year round activities include visiting our Wilkinsons Childrens' Library, Classes at the Ah Haa School of Art 970.728.3886, enjoying our local park, Riding with Roudy (our local cowboy) 970.728.9611, musical performances from The Telluride Choral Society, and visiting our historic sites in town. And when you are all done, there is nothing like a burger and ice cream from our local parlor Sweet Life!  Later, Mom & Dad can enjoy a night on the town with the help of Annie's nannie's 970.728.2991.
